Chance Eakin Talks to Students about Life as a Software Engineer

He had a lot to say.

He's a frontend developer for Help.com and an opera singer, but did you know Chance Eakin is an educator, too? Recently, Chance took time out of his day to talk to the students of Canyon Vista Middle School. During his talk, he discussed emerging technologies, his work at Help.com, and what students can do to grow in their computer science and engineering studies.

Speaking with the technology students from Melissa Sharpe's classes, Chance demonstrated a number of web technologies. He also recruited some volunteers for a computer vision experiment. The students then shared their web projects and discussed how they go about building websites and applications.

As an educator, one of the most important things Chance likes to emphasize is self-study. According to him, the prevalence of free and accessible educational resources is an incredible tool for students. “When I grew up, the internet was in its infancy. Children today have unparalleled resources available with which they can learn and grow, and I want to make sure that we connect educators and their students with this plethora of resources.”

Take a look at some of the moments from this special day.
